The Scottish FA is delighted to announce a new partnership with Boots UK to support women’s football in Scotland, alongside the women’s national teams across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

For the next three years, Boots UK will sponsor the Scotland Women’s National Team (SWNT) during one of the most exciting periods for the women’s game in Scotland, with the SWNT set to make their debut at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer.

Following qualification for the 2017 UEFA Women's Euros - the first major tournament finals the team had ever qualified for - the SWNT will face England, Japan and Argentina in their inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup finals campaign this summer.

The partnership with Boots UK, the UK’s largest pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, marks the first time any brand or retailer has sponsored all five FA women’s national teams. It will include the SWNT's upcoming 2019 Women’s World Cup campaign and the 2021 UEFA Women’s European Championships, to be held in England.

Scotland's record goalscorer Julie Fleeting and Scottish FA Head of Girls' and Women's Football Donald Gillies attended the launch event today along with representatives and legends of the othe nations' national teams.

According to research, 1.7 million girls and women aged five and over partake in football every month in the UK, with some 80 percent of women footballers saying they feel more confident as a result of playing for their team.

Scotland has recently seen a number of landmarks in girls' and women's football, including more than 12,000 registered participants in 2018 alone and a record-breaking crowd of 4,098 who witnessed Scotland beat top seeds Switzerland in Paisley in August 2018 during their successful 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup qualification campaign.

Ian Maxwell, Chief Executive of the Scottish FA, said: “Improved health and wellbeing is one of the major benefits of participation in football so having one of our senior national teams partner with Boots, an organisation who also recognise and promote these values, is a huge boost.

“We have seen a marked increase in interest in the Scotland Women’s National Team since qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and partnerships like this will only enhance our ability to grow the women’s game in Scotland.

“We are looking forward to a successful partnership with Boots for the next three years”.

Helen Normoyle, Marketing Director at Boots UK: “It’s so exciting to see how women’s football has taken off over the last few years, especially as a retailer who is proud to champion women’s right to live well, feel better and look great.

“Boots has always had a strong heritage of supporting women in sport; we founded our own women’s sports team as early as 1894.

“Via our partnership we are excited to give these inspirational women in these teams the chance to tell their stories to help encourage other women to experience the amazing confidence sport can bring”.
