The Fifth Round weekend got underway on Friday evening as St Mirren took on Airdrieonians. Jacob Devaney's superb early strike got the Premier Sports Cup winners on their way but Airdrie equalised through the prolific Euan Henderson in the second half.

The match remained level into extra-time and the contest appeared to be heading for penalties before Roland Idowu latched onto a ball upfield and finished superbly to send St Mirren into the last eight.

There were two matches that fell foul of the weather, with Aberdeen's clash with Motherwell and Dundee United's home tie against Spartans called off due to waterlogged pitches.

Two matches took place on Saturday afternoon, with Dunfermline eventually overcoming stubborn Fife rivals, Kelty Hearts, after a late double from Chris Kane.

Partick Thistle, meanwhile, also came out on top against lower league opposition, winning 3-2 in a topsy turvy encounter against Elgin City.

Ryan Sargent grabbed a double for the League Two side, but goals from Robbie Crawford, Tony Watt and Ben Stanway saw the Jags into Sunday's Quarter-Final Draw.

Dundee travelled to Glasgow to face Celtic in Saturday's late kick off and the Dark Blues were seconds away from recording one of the Scottish Cup's all-time upsets, as they led through a Ethan Hamilton wonder strike.

But debutant Junior Adamu broke their hearts deep into stoppage time, superbly flicking home Sebastian Tounekti's cross to force extra-time.

Tounekti then smashed home at the near post to secure a hard-fought victory for Celtic as they booked their place in the last four.

There would be no hint of an upset in Sunday afternoon's match, as a rampant Rangers put eight past a shellshocked Queen's Park. The Spiders had won at Ibrox in this competition 12 months ago but Rangers were ruthless this time around, going into half-time five goals to the good after a James Tavernier hat-trick.

Debutant striker Ryan Naderi also grabbed two, with Bojan Miovski and Tochi Chukwuan also on target as the match finished 8-0.
