European Qualifier
Scotland v Gibraltar
Sunday, March 29th 2014, 5pm kick-off
Hampden Park, Glasgow
Former Scotland and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes the national team have their best chance of qualification in years after the promising start to the Euro 2016 campaign.
Gordon Strachan’s side have lost just once - a narrow defeat away to Germany - and find themselves level with Germany and the Republic of Ireland on 7 points.
A win against Gibraltar next Sunday would further strengthen Scotland’s qualification chances and the man who led the team at the 1986 World Cup is confident the country can reach next year’s tournament in France.
Speaking to the Scottish FA, he said: “I think Scotland have their best chance in years. The result against Ireland was an important one because you’d have to think that between Ireland, Poland and themselves - you have to expect Germany to emerge as the winners - that second place is there for grabs and they have their best chance.
“The game in Ireland will be important, as will the game against Poland at home, but they have given themselves a chance.”
