June Sanderson and Sarah Nicolson, Skye and Lochalsh Active School Coordinators, organised the first ever Scottish FA and Highland Football Academy Developmental Fours Festival in Plockton and Portree on Friday 17th September 2010. This was a follow on from the school visits Peter Budge, Football Development Officer, made earlier in the month.
The format for the festival was to play a rotation of small sided games over four minutes with no goalkeepers.
For the games there was no coaching as the emphasis was on fun and fair play and great credit goes to the secondary pupils who ably assisted on the day by giving praise and encouragement to all the boys and girls in attendance.
Numbers for the event was fantastic with over two hundred Primary 4s and 5s attending. The children showed great enthusiasm for the games and it was great to see their co-operation with others from different schools; displaying respect for their opponents and at the same time it was magnificent to hear and see so many children having a good time.
Through the success of the school visits and the festival we can look forward to repeating the process by returning to Skye & Lochalsh in 2011.
