Peffermill Playing Fields was the venue for the Scottish FA South East Region’s Level 4 Basic Youth Award inservice session.
The Level 4 Basic Youth Award is a 30-hour non-residential qualification which assesses competence in delivering a coaching session based on the format of the
Coaching Youth Footballers Certificate Course.
In addition, candidates are required to demonstrate the ability to shape a team and structure an individual programme for youth players.
The workshop was aimed at coaches who will be attending the course later in the year as well as providing a valuable insight into the course for prospective future candidates.
Due to the atrocious weather conditions the twenty-eight coaches in attendance were provided with an interactive workshop in the seminar room with Scottish FA Course Tutor, Dougie Anderson, leading the session.
Dougie used the Scottish FA’s new animated coaching resources to demonstrate the main components that candidates are required to deliver:
Component 1 : Shaping A Team
Component 2: Individual Programmes
Component 3: Conducting A Session
Billy McAdam (BFC Linlithgow) attended the workshop. He said: “The workshop provided a great insight into the expectations of coaches attending the course and it provided us with an opportunity to go away and study and practice the delivery of the key components we will be expected to deliver during the course.
"The new Scottish FA resources are excellent and despite the fact it was too miserable to go on the pitch, the video animations were a great learning tool.”
The Level 4 Basic Youth Award video animations for the Team Shaping component are now available online here...
