The Scottish FA’s South East team’s support for young players’ transition from seven-a-side to eleven-a-side football was showcased at the inaugural Development Festival across various venues in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Teams played in non-competitive fixtures throughout the morning and afternoon. No scores were recorded with the focus on coaching points from the squad’s coaches.
The day was supported by the refereeing association who used the festival to introduce newly qualified referees to 11-a-side officiating.
The multi-venue festival took place at four locations; Forrester High School, Meadowmill Sports Centre, Dalkeith Community Campus and The Spartans Community Football Academy.
David Drummond, the Scottish FA’s South East regional manager, said: “The young people certainly enjoyed themselves and the coaches are finding the festival is working well as it gives their players a chance to play football in a stress-free environment.
“They aren’t overly concerned about the final score, instead are able to focus on building from the back and playing football the right way.”
The second 12’s transitional festival will be taking place on the 12th May. Teams interested in attending can email the Scottish FA South East Region office at southeast@scottishfa.co.uk
