Over 170 young players from the South East of Scotland participated in the Scottish FA's Soccer One & Soccer Two Regional Finals at Pennypitt Stadium, Prestonpans on 2nd June, showing off their fancy footwork in the process.

East Lothian Council and Preston Athletic FC in partnership with the Scottish Football Association hosted the Regional Soccer One and Two Finals, which featured boys and girls teams from East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian.

The teams were split into three groups, Soccer One (1st year boys), Soccer Two (2nd year boys), and Soccer One girls (1st – 3rd year) with a series of round robin games throughout the day followed by finals for the lucky few.

The finals were very tight with the boys Soccer One competition being won by Gala Academy from the Scottish Borders.

The winners of Soccer Two were Drummond High School from Edinburgh, and the Soccer One girls competition was won by Musselburgh Grammar School from East Lothian.

The finalists for both Soccer One competitions (boys and girls) will now compete in the national finals on June 15th at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, adjacent to Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Mark Munro, Scottish FA Regional Manager for the South East was delighted with the event.

He said: “The Soccer One and Two programmes are about giving all kids the chance to play and not just the school’s first team.

"This is the first time many of the players have ever competed in an event like this and all teams were a credit to their respective schools.

"Whilst it was very competitive, every game was played in the right spirit. I’m sure that the finalists will do us proud when they represent the South East Region in the National Finals in a couple of weeks time."
