Current Liverpool star meets club Legend

The night before Scotland’s second match of their training camp in La Manga, Caroline Weir sat down with the team for their usual nightly meeting.

Little did the Liverpool Ladies midfielder know, a club legend was on his way.

Kenny Dalglish made a surprise appearance to the camp and met the team, telling stories of his illustrious playing career and wishing the team all the best on their year ahead.

Ahead of the match against Russia, Weir said: “He’s a Liverpool and Scotland legend so for us to meet him was pretty cool.

“He shared some of his experiences and the girls were all really interested by what he had to say.

“I’ve heard that he’s a really nice guy and down to earth but I’ve never had the chance to meet him before.”

Having recently released a film about his life and been honoured by Liverpool with the club naming a stand at Anfield after him, Scotland’s joint record goalscorer is admired by millions across the globe.

Weir said: “He’s a huge deal at Liverpool and being at the club myself, that really comes across, especially when you go to Anfield.

“He’s done so much for the club but he seems incredibly humble with it.

“As we continue our World Cup qualifying campaign, having someone like him take time out to share his experiences with us is invaluable.

“There were little bits of information that will help us going forward.”
