The Scotland Women’s National Team will continue its preparations for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Pinatar next month, as Shelley Kerr’s side looks to capitalise on their impressive showing at the Algarve Cup.

Fresh from their fifth-place finish at the invitational tournament, the SWNT will fly to Spain at the start of April for a brace of friendlies against South American opposition.

Fellow FIFA Women’s World Cup debutants Chile will be first on the agenda for Kerr’s side, with the two sides set to meet at the Pinatar Arena on Friday, 5 April.

Ranked 38th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, Las Chicas de Rojo secured their passage to France by claiming a runners-up finish at the 2018 Copa America Feminina – a campaign that included a resounding 4-0 victory over Argentina, group stage opponents for the SWNT this summer.

Chile edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3 in the only previous meeting between the two sides, with current Scotland squad members Jane Ross and Christie Murray on the scoresheet in a losing cause back in 2013.

Scotland will then remain in Pinatar for their second match of the trip, as Kerr’s squad take on Brazil for the first time since December 2013 on Monday, 8 April.

The seven-time South American champions come into the fixture after competing at the 2019 SheBelieves Cup, coming up against Scotland’s other two group opponents for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in the form of England and Japan.

11 of the Scotland players involved in the 2013 fixture are still part of the international setup six years on, including goalscorer Hayley Lauder and current captain Rachel Corsie.

Kick-off times for both matches will be confirmed in due course, whilst details of an upcoming SWNT home friendly will also be announced in the coming weeks.
