SYFA West Region Under 16 Squad played against a touring South West Australian Regional Squad on Sunday 29th November at Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow. The game was played on the Indoor Pitch to beat the weather.
West Region started strong and it was Stuart Manwell who opened the scoring for the West Region when he finished off a great attack by the Region and volleyed home an inch perfect cross in the 22nd minute. West Region did have a large part of the play but just could not capitalise on their possession. In the second half this possession did pay off when West Region won a corner and it was William Brown who flicked the corner in at the front post in the 14th minute.
It took a further 10 minutes and it was David Murray who scored a third for the region when he powered through from midfield and drove in a low shot that the keeper just could not get down to, Murray had beaten 3 players en route to goal and it was a well worked move by the West. To finish off the scoring in the 38th minute it was William Brown who scored his second for the Region when play was switched from left to right, Brown latched onto the pass again broke into the box and volleyed home.
All in all a good days work for the Region, they now go on to play in the Inter Region Cup in December.
Coach David Cartwight said the he was delighted with the way the boys had performed with four players being called up to the National Squad following this game and he thanked RBS for the kit sponsorship.
