350 players will be gathering at Soccerworld, Dundee, every fortnight for a new women’s indoor winter league.
The Scottish FA East region and Soccerworld have organised the new programme to help teams across Tayside and Fife to prepare for the start of the new girls’ and women’s league season.
This year sees the introduction of a new girls’ and women’s schedule across the country, with Scottish Women’s Football leagues now running from March to November.
Sam Milne, Scottish FA East region girls’ and women’s football development officer, said: “The aim of this new winter league is to give teams a pre-season programme in the run up to the start of the new season. Soccerworld is a great venue, and it’s ideal for teams to get the use of an indoor facility over the winter, particularly with the weather we’ve been having recently.”
34 teams have signed up to the new winter league, with 350 players ranging from under 11 through to adult level taking part. The league will take place fortnightly at Soccerworld until the end of February, with youth age groups playing on Saturdays and seniors on Sundays.
The Scottish FA and Soccerworld will be working closely with Active Schools and Dundee City Council sports development department to run the programme and provide referees and coaches.
