Steve Clarke made four changes to the starting 11 that lined up in the previous game against Georgia a few days ago. Jack Hendry, Jacob Brown, Stuart Armstrong and Kenny McLean all came in for Ryan Porteous, Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie and Billy Gilmour.

As It Happened

A light show, tifo display and the belting of Flower of Scotland got the party started under the lights at Hampden Park for the final UEFA EURO 2024 Qualifier.

Norway capitalised early and took the lead after three minutes when the ball fell to the feet of Aron Dønnum who took a few touches in the box before firing the ball into the top of the net to give his side an early advantage.

Scotland piled on the pressure and equalised in the 12th minute from the penalty spot. Scotland were awarded the penalty after Aron Dønnum, the Norway goal scorer, handled the ball inside the box. Captain John McGinn stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it past the keepers right hand side.

20 minutes into the game and Norway took the lead again. The ball was played into the path of Patrick Berg who drove down the wing before crossing the ball into the danger area within the box. Jørgen Larsen beat Zander Clark to the ball and played it across the face of goal with the ball eventually trickling in at the far side.

Scotland were back on level terms in the 33rd minute when a Scott McTominay corner met the head of Kenny McLean within the box. McLean headed the ball down towards goal, deflecting off Norway defender Leo Østigård on the way down and past his own goalkeeper.

Both teams came close to going into half time with an advantage. Aron Dønnum saw his effort blocked by Nathan Patterson within the 6 yard box before Scotland came close at the other end a few minutes later. Stuart Armstrong drove towards the box before releasing a powerful shot that went past the right hand post, the referee blowing for half time straight after.

Stuart Armstrong got his goal a few minutes into the second half thanks to his never give up attitude. Greg Taylor and Stuart Armstrong battled in the corner to win the ball with Armstrong winning it before getting away from his man and driving towards the box. He slipped the ball to John McGinn who then returned it to Armstrong who produced a first time finish into the near post, giving Scotland the lead.

The action packed game wasn’t finished yet, with Norway equalising in the 86th minute. Julian Ryerson floated a cross into the box which was met at the back post area by Mohamed Elyounoussi who headed home the equaliser.

We are off to Germany as Scotland end the UEFA EURO 2024 Qualifying Campaign second in the group, qualifying for the tournament with 2 games to spare.

The draw for EURO 2024 will take place on Saturday, 2 December where Scotland will find out who they will be facing in Germany.
