UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite Round
Italy 0-0 Scotland
Saturday, 28 March 2015, kick-off 11am (local time)
Lindabrunn Sportschule, Lindabrunn
Scotland Under-19s maintained their position at the top of their UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round group after draw 0-0 with Italy in Lindabrunn.
Following their impressive 2-1 win over group hosts Austria on Thursday, Scotland came into the match looking to build on their opening day triumph, although had to play without the suspended Liam Henderson.
Hearts midfielder Angus Beith replaced Henderson but the rest of the team was unchanged from Thursday.
Paul McMullan had Scotland’s best chance of the first half when he curled inches wide of the post from the edge of the penalty area whilst Liam Kelly made a string of good saves to keep the young Scots in the match
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna almost gave Scotland an early second-half lead when he headed across goal but the ball bounced inches wide of the post.
Kelly was in good form again to deny Torino midfielder Vittorio Parigini and Inter Milan forward Federico Bonazzoli as the Italians went in search of a winner.
Celtic’s McMullan almost grabbed the opening goal after beating several Italian defenders but he dragged his shot wide and both sides had to settle for a point.
A win against Croatia in their final group match on Tuesday afternoon (kick-off 12pm GMT) would send Sbragia’s side to the finals.
SCOTLAND | Kelly, Sinnamon, Waters, Souttar, McKenna (Cpt.), Storie, Beith, Jones, McMullan, Cardwell (Brophy 46), McBurnie (Wright 62).
Subs not used | Hart (GK), L. Martin, Smith, S. Martin.
