2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship Qualifying Round
Scotland 2-0 Latvia
Friday, 13th November 2015, kick-off 2.30pm
Market’s Field, Limerick (Republic of Ireland)
Nesbitt 22, Sammut 44
Aidan Nesbitt and Ruben Sammut were on target for Scotland as they got their 2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over Latvia in Limerick today.
Scotland were in front after 22 minutes when Nesbitt converted a neat cutback from his Celtic teammate Kieran Tierney.
Chelsea midfielder Sammut then doubled the Scots’ advantage shortly before half time when he slotted home another Tierney cross.
Scot Gemmill’s side couldn’t add to their two-goal cushion in the second half, although Kilmarnock’s Greg Kiltie went close when his low strike forced Kristaps Zommers in the Latvia goal into a low save.
Elsewhere in the group Slovenia – Scotland’s opponents on Sunday – beat the hosts Republic of Ireland 1-0.
The top two teams will progress to the elite round of the competition.
