SCOTLAND v Iceland
Tuesday 13th October 2015, kick-off 5.45 pm
Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen

Ricky Sbragia has announced a 23-player squad for Scotland’s forthcoming UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying matches against France and Iceland at Pittodrie Stadium next month.

Dominic Hyam and Craig Slater are the only new faces from the squad that beat Northern Ireland last month in their Group 3 opener. Ricky said he was keen to keep the momentum running from that 2-1 win:

"I thought it’d be unfair to change things around too much. Over in Northern Ireland they were excellent so it’d be a bit hard done if anyone was left out.

"It’s a difficult group. Everyone talks about France and Iceland but Ukraine and Macedonia are difficult teams to play too. We’ve got to have a belief we can get something from it. I think we go in there wholeheartedly. How the first 4 games go should give us an idea of how the group is panning out and what we need.

"France are exceptional but we’ve got to go into the game with belief and think we have a good chance."

Former Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser has been included in the squad as he gets set to make his return to the north-east following his move to English Premiership side Bournemouth in 2013.

The 21-year-old, who netted the winning goal in Scotland’s 2-1 win over Northern Ireland earlier this month, is enjoying a loan spell in the English Championship with Ipswich Town and was recently named the Football League Young Player of the Month for August. Manager Ricky Sbragia is excited by the potential shown by Fraser and his fellow Ryans: Christie and Gauld.

Ricky said: "They are exceptional players and three very different players with different personalities. As a team I can only remark on what I saw in Northern Ireland and during the 90mins they were very good. They have a great relationship but as individuals they are very different off the field."
