France hit two second half goals to dash Scotland's UEFA European Under-21 Championship hopes.

Despite a spirited performance from Ricky Sbragia's side, two Sebastian Haller goals handed France all three points.


The defeat leaves Scotland requiring a win against Northern Ireland on Tuesday to keep their faint hopes of reaching the finals in 2017.

Heart of Midlothian goalkeeper was in inspired form in the first half, making a string of excellent saves.

Scotland looked lively on the counter attack with Ryan Gauld, Liam Henderson and Jason Cummings offering a threat but they were unable to fully test the French goalkeeper.

Hamilton's club team mate Jordan McGhee made an superb goal line clearance shortly before half time to keep things level going into the interval.

Haller gave France the lead when he was able to turn inside the box and strike a powerful shot beyond Hamilton.

He was then first react after Adrien Rabiot's shot was spilled by Hamilton and he killed the match with the rebound.

Scotland are in action again on Tuesday at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, kick-off 4pm.
