Specialist Assistant Referee (SAR) & FIFA Categories

An assistant referee who has demonstrated the requisite standards of performance and fitness will become the highest category of assistant referee within the Scottish FA.

Depending on their grouping within the category, a Specialist Assistant Referee can officiate in the following:

• SPFL Premiership
• SPFL Championship
• SPFL League 1
• SPFL League 2
• National Cup Competitions
• Highland Football League
• Lowland Football League
• Scottish Junior FA Football

As referee:

• Highland Football League
• Lowland Football League
• East of Scotland League
• South of Scotland League

FIFA Assistant Referee

A Specialist Assistant Referee who has been nominated by the Scottish FA Referee Committee to FIFA for inclusion in its International List of Referees.

The nomination will be determined on FIFA's criteria and also on the basis of the performance, fitness, commitment and experience of the assistant referee.

A SAR should also have demonstrated an exceptional potential and ability to perform to a high and consistent standard within the FIFA International List of Referees.

As assistant

• UEFA and FIFA Competitions
• International matches
• SPFL Premiership, SPFL Championship, SPFL League 1, SPFL League 2
• National Cup Competitions

As fourth official

• UEFA Competitions
