Aberdeen Under-18s capped a memorable few days with a dramatic late comeback as they defeated Celtic 3-2 in their final league match before lifting the Club Academy Scotland (CAS) Under-18s Elite League Trophy at Pittodrie.
Scott Anderson's side had been in a hard-fought title race with Kilmarnock until a 4-2 defeat for Killie at the hands of Rangers last week opened the door. Aberdeen would then seal the title on Friday afternoon, as goals from Fletcher Boyd and Findlay Marshall gave them a 2-1 victory over Rangers at the Rangers Training Centre.
Boyd's weekend would get even better as he capped his first team debut with a late goal against Hibs at Easter Road.
The young Dons were then given a chance to play at Pittodrie on Monday as they celebrated their historic achievement and they certainly did not disappoint the fans who had turned out to support them. Trailing 2-0 with five minutes to go, Marshall again got on the scoresheet as he lashed home following a Lewis Carrol knock-down to give Aberdeen a lifeline.
Substitute Joseph Teasdale then lashed Aberdeen level in stoppage time, before his looping effort from the touchline crept in at the far post to seal a dramatic 3-2 win with the last kick of the game.
It was a fitting climax to an exciting league season and the celebrations soon began in earnest, with captain Alfie Stewart lifitng the trophy in front of the Aberdeen supporters.
The Dons' victory will soften the blow of their 2-1 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish FA Youth Cup Final at Hampden earlier this month, while Aberdeen will now have the chance to represent Scotland on the international stage as they compete in the UEFA Youth League.
