The Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup returns to Barclays Hampden this weekend as the competition reaches the semi-final stages.

Four teams will battle it out across two days with the victorious sides securing their spot in this month’s prestigious finale at the National Stadium.

First up, Celtic will take on nine-time winners Glasgow City and when it comes to silverware, the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup has offered some success for Celtic of late.

Back-to-back winners in 2022 and 2023, the Parkhead side know what it is like to make the journey up the Hampden steps to get their hands on the trophy.

They beat Glasgow City in extra-time in the 2022 final – that final was played at Tynecastle – before then beating Rangers at Hampden the following season.

As Celtic look to get their hands back on the trophy, they face the tough ask of beating a Glasgow City team who have the tantalising prospect of a treble on offer this season and no-one has won the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup more times than Glasgow City.

Leanne Ross won this trophy seven times as a player but has yet to sample that winning feeling as a manager at Barclays Hampden.

And while it is a Cup that City have won a record nine times, success at the national stadium has been somewhat elusive for the Petershill side in recent seasons; they have not won the Scottish Cup since 2019.

Covid impacted the competition across two campaigns with Celtic and Rangers sharing victories in the tournament since the pandemic.

But with the Sky Sports Cup already in the cabinet this term and a title very much on the line, this is a season where City will be well aware they could end their campaign with a clean sweep.

Turning to Sunday, Holders Rangers will be hoping to continue their defence of the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup by booking a place in the Final for the fourth consecutive season.

The competition winners in the last two campaigns haven’t conceded a single goal en route to the semi-final stage, having netted 22 times without reply.

Leanne Crichton’s side remain locked in a tantalising table-top battle in the league after recently losing out on silverware last month to Glasgow City in the Sky Sports Cup final.

Montrose have reached the semi-final for the first time in their history after an impressive 5-1 win over Dundee United at the quarter-final stage.

The Gable Endies will be looking to go one step further today by defeating Rangers and booking a place in this month’s final.

Montrose have secured their top-flight status for next season, but they have firmly set their sights on achieving the dream of lifting silverware in Mount Florida.
