UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualifier

SCOTLAND v Ukraine

Friday, 13th November 2015, kick-off 5.45pm

St Mirren Park, Paisley

Andrew Robertson says he had no hesitation in accepting a place in the Scotland Under-21 squad for next week’s U21 Euro qualifier against Ukraine.

The Hull City full-back made his full Scotland debut in March 2014 and has gained a total of eight caps for the senior side. Born in 1994, Robertson remains eligible for the under-21 side and says it will be a privilege to join Ricky’s squad for the game at St Mirren Park.

Speaking exclusively to the Scottish FA, he said: "I am still eligible to represent the 21s and playing for my country is a privilege at whatever level I am called up. I have been fortunate enough to have experienced the European Qualifiers, although we were all disappointed not to reach France next summer, and with no A squad match in November I am looking forward to helping Ricky and the squad in this qualifier against Ukraine."

It has also been revealed that Gordon Strachan will form part of the backroom staff for next week's game. That has given Robertson even greater motivation to help the Under-21s onto victory.

He added: "It will be great for Ricky and the squad to have Gordon help out for this match - it gives the players even more motivation and an opportunity impress before preparations for the World Cup qualifiers begin next year.

"I know from experience how quickly things can change: my first encounter with the manager was when a group of us from the 21s went to Mar Hall to provide opposition for a Scotland training session.

"You can never take your place in the senior squad for granted and when I was asked if I could join the under-21s for this huge match against Ukraine I had no hesitation.”
