Notre Dame High School in Greenock hosted a successful Tesco Bank girls’ and boys' four-a-side festival recently.
Set up by the Scottish FA’s football development officer in the West region Stuart Rafferty, the day attracted 180 children from the area.
The aim of the event was to highlight the good work being done at local Quality Mark club Broomhill BC and possibly attract new members for its new girls’ section.
Girls’ and women’s football development officer for the Scottish FA in the region, Corrie Campbell, attended the event to lend a hand within the girls’ area of the festival, which 75 attended.
She said: “I was very pleased to see so many young girls given the opportunity to experience playing in a girls only environment where they are able to get more touches of the ball and generally gain a positive experience of playing with other girls.
“I am keen to encourage girls to make the step from school football into their local clubs. Football development officer Stuart Rafferty and I are working together to create opportunities for girls to play football at clubs throughout Inverclyde.”
