To mark Mental Health Awareness Week in 2019, the third part of the Scottish FA's 'Football Saved My Life' series has been released. Isla Buchanan is the focus of this episode.
When Isla was twelve, her Mother suffered a stroke; as a result Isla became the caregiver for her and her siblings. This had a massive impact on her personal life, which led to Isla becoming overwhelmed and suffering from mental health issues.
Football became an outlet for Isla, helping her to escape and putting a smile back on her face. Isla is both a player and a referee – the impact football has has on her has saved her life.
