Michael also overseen the restructure of the Celtic FC Girls’ Academy and spent time working with Scotland Women’s Under-19s and 17s over the last 12 months.

Michael inherits an exciting Under-17s squad that secured their place in ‘League A’ as well as progression to Round Two of the EURO qualifiers with a game to spare in the mini tournament hosted in Scotland last month, with victories against Iceland, Northern Ireland and Poland.

Speaking ahead of his arrival, Michael Tuohy: “I’m delighted to be offered this opportunity. It feels like the right time for me to take this step in my coaching journey after 7 productive years at Celtic.

“We have top prospects throughout all of our age groups and it’s an honour to have the responsibility of developing and nurturing that talent as well as uncovering the next crop of promising players as they move through the age groups.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Michael McArdle and the other coaches across our youth national team pathway to further enhance the great work that’s been done in the last few years on our elite pathway and talent identification.”

Head of Women’s Elite Football, Michael McArdle: “The role of Women’s Under-17s Head Coach is a vital position within our pathway in supporting and enhancing the work of our clubs and in the development of our best young talent. I’m really pleased that we can offer this position to someone with the experience and vision that Michael has.

“It’s a very exciting time for the Women’s national youth teams and being able to add another top-class coach with both elite level senior and youth development experience to the staff is yet another positive step in the growth of our game.

“There is huge amount of belief and talent across our pathway, and we believe that Michael is the right coach to enhance our support, in particular for the current players and the players of the future within our under-17s squad, who hope to fulfil their ultimate ambition which is to play for the Scotland Women’s National Team.”
