This year’s NextGen campaign has kicked off with the first fixtures in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories.

It follows an exciting end to last year with six different clubs winning across the various categories, age groups and competitions.

This season marks the second full cycle of games following a six-month pilot in 2024 and has now evolved to include 35-38 NextGen games from August to June from the Under-13 age group to Under-17s.

The Under-13s programme involves non-competitive, small-sided games at 7v7 and 9v9 as well as 1v1 and bio-banding festivals.

Under-15 and Under-17 programmes have expanded to include the NextGen Cup, performance league, category league, festival football and the Under-15s also host a bio-banding festival.

The development of our NextGen games programme has been enhanced by our club led programmes which have evolved in their provision within their specific talent development environments, including mixed gender training and games programmes, growth & maturation informed games programmes and player development plans.

We also have club led futsal programmes and cross-border programmes to enhance player opportunity and development.

All programmes within the pathway are informed and closely linked to our youth national team pathway profiling. These plans are collaboratively designed to suit each talent development environment.
