Slovakia v Scotland
Friday, 23 May 2025 - kick off 2:30pm (UK time)
National Training Centre, Senec, Slovakia

Scotland Men's Under-20s are back in action on Friday afternoon as they face Slovakia in a friendly in Senec. It's the final match of preparation for Scot Gemmill's side ahead of their Under-21 qualifiers which begin in September against Czechia.

With the current Under-21 cycle still active, this match is classed as an Under-20 match, made up of players who are 2004-born and younger.

Match updates and a report will be published on the Scotland National Team social channels.

Team News

There have been a number of changes since the squad was initially named, owing to unavailability due to the match following outside the traditional international window.

Aidan Glavin, Kristi Montgomery, Mitchell Robertson, Noah McCann and Taylor Steven have all received first time call-ups, while Lenny Agbaire and Charlie McArthur have also been drafted back in after appearing in March in Spain.

There are also a number of players who were left out of the original squad due to club commitments, including the likes of Matthew Anderson and Jude Bonnar whose club seasons are yet to conclude.

Gemmill is able to call upon the experience of David Watson, Daniel Kelly and Bobby Wales who all featured in the last campaign for the Under-21s.

James Wilson also remains in the Under-20 squad as he looks maintain freshness and continue his development ahead the Scotland senior squad's two matches next month against Iceland and Liechtenstein.

Pre-match Thoughts

Scotland's Jevan Beattie reflected on his first call-up to this level, as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his father, Craig, who was a full Scotland international. He said: "Having a dad who played for Scotland has always made me proud and I have always looked up to him. I have watched his style and he was more of a player who was rapid - but I like to stay in the six yard box and get my goals from there.

"All of my goals have been from there this season. He told me that he always used to look for cutbacks, so I think we are two different types of player and he helps me and gives me advice.

"He's class with me and he wants me to be better than he was and go to the highest level I can and play and score goals for my country and that's where I am trying to get to, hopefully starting with a goal or two in Slovakia this week."
