Scotland made just two changes from the brilliant 2-1 victory away to Slovakia last month, with Mya Christie and Hannah Jordan coming in for Niamh Noble and Abbie Handley.

As It Happened

Scotland kicked off, boosted by the vocal crowd inside Ainslie Park, but it quickly became clear that this was going to be a significant step up in quality against their world-class opponents.

It was indeed Spain who grabbed an early lead, with Ona Baradad pouncing after Scotland's defence struggled to clear.

The visitors continued to push forward, putting another ball in but it was stopped by Aimee Anderson.

Kenzie Weir managed to get a head on another Spain cross it to put it out for a corner, before Scotland had their first break, with Kirsty MacLean taking a corner and producing a perfect ball into the box but it was scrambled away by Spain's defence.

MacLean was into the action again moments later, producing two great clearances, one after the other, before stepping up to take a free-kick which just missed out on the top corner.

Scotland had recovered well from the early sucker punch, but were unable to hold on until half-time, as Lucia Moral latched onto a lovely pass before firing home to double Spain's lead.

It was soon 3-0 moments later, as Baradad's cross into the box was headed to Moral who was able to tap it into the goal for her second.

Spain continued to attack as the second period began, with Julia Bartel firing the ball against the crossbar from outside, and moments later Bartel had another opportunity - with the ball this time landing just inside the post to put the away side firmly in the lead.

Scotland introduced Jodi McLeary, Hannah Robinson and Amelie Birse for their first taste of League A football at Under-19 level, and the hosts continued to show plenty of endeavour and resilience as the match progressed, before two late goals from Erika Gonzalez and Estela Carbonell sealed victory for Spain.

The result marked the Under-19s first defeat since November last year, and they will be keen to bounce back from this setback in their next match, which sees us take on Finland on Saturday - with kick off at 11am.
