Radio presenter Gordon Smart to invite his A-list entourage along for “unmissably mischievous” Scotland HQ Live breakfast show for the duration of Scotland’s involvement
Lewis Irons to host 10-hour marathon preview show The Countdown featuring famous faces on and off the pitch ahead of official Opening Ceremony
Scotland supporters will get closer to the action than ever before with Scotland HQ LIVE - a star-studded breakfast show hosted by radio presenter Gordon Smart that will give never-before-seen access to the national team headquarters throughout the EUROS.
The daily show will be streamed live from Saturday June 12 and will follow an epic 10-hour preview programme Scotland HQ Live: The Countdown hosted by Scottish FA TVs Lewis Irons from 9am til 7pm on June 11. The show will bring together famous Scottish football faces and TV personalities to build the anticipation ahead of the official opening ceremony and signifying the end of a 23-year wait for the men’s team to reach a major tournament.
The shows will be broadcast live on YouTube and shared across all Scotland National Team platforms.
Scotland HQ Live will feature The Fratellis singing their version of Yes Sir I Can Boogie, the unofficial Scotland anthem, The Snuts, Line of Duty star Martin Compston, 12m-selling singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald and a host of big names from across music, TV and film, and sport.
The Countdown will bring together some of Scotland’s most recognisable faces and voices, including the Open Goal crew led by Simon Ferry, STV news anchor John Mackay and presenter Sarah McMullan, Clyde Superscoreboard anchor Gordon Duncan, Off the Ball duo Stuart Cosgrove and Tam Cowan, and sea-shanty singing sensation Nathan Evans.
It will also have a rolling donation with proceeds going to nominated charities Children 1st and Tartan Army Children’s Charity.
Scotland HQ LIVE will also give fans the inside scoop from the team camp every morning with an exclusive live interview link to the Rockcliffe with players getting a grilling from Gordon and his guests.
One Scotland fan will also make good on his promise to have a tattoo of Serbia penalty hero David Marshall done live from the studio.
Fans will also be able to win a random array of money-can’t-buy prizes from the camp donated daily by the squad and supporters can also win the chance to appear on the show by sharing their most outlandish stories of supporting Scotland.
The Countdown will be streamed live on YouTube from 9am til 7pm on June 11 and Scotland HQ Live daily from 9am on the 12th. The show will be available to watch on all official Scotland National Team channels and fans can also catch re-runs on the big screens at the official UEFA EURO 2020 Fan Zone in Glasgow Green.
Gordon Smart, Scotland HQ Live host: “I was a student the last time the Scotland men’s team went to a major tournament and I vividly remember myself and my pals discussing whether we could afford to go to France 98 and ultimately deciding ‘nah, we can’t afford it - we’ll go to the next one’.
“It’s been a long wait but one that will absolutely be worth it. Being asked to host Scotland HQ Live show is a privilege as a Scotland diehard who had planned celebrating his 40th at Hampden last March in the play-off against Israel before COVID-19 put paid to that.
“I look forward to bringing some famous faces along for the ride and asking the players the kind of questions you just can’t get away with at a press conference. It should be an unmissable mischievous start to the morning.”
Andy Robertson, Scotland captain: “Scotland HQ Live is a great way to keep the Scotland fans connected but also clearly a way of making sure that the players can’t have a long lie in at any point in the tournament…
“I look forward to seeing what Gordon and his guests have in store for us and I am sure it will help keep the nation entertained in between the games. No pressure.”
Steve Clarke, Scotland Head Coach: “I’m not sure I signed this one off but I’m sure the players will be grateful for some light relief during what will be an intense camp and the fans will get a unique insight into what we are trying to achieve. And before Gordon asks, I’m busy that day.”
