Scotland Women’s Under-16s fought back from two goals down to earn a draw in the first of two friendly matches against Switzerland this week.
With Emma Egli scoring a brace for the Swiss, striking on 4 and 33 minutes. Debutant, Emily Cadell, pulled one back shortly before half-time.
With just over an hour played at Ainslie Park, Freya Brien grabbed the equaliser for the young Scots, which ultimately sealed the draw for Gary Doctor’s side.
Buoyed by the fight-back in the first game, the young Scots saw out a 1-0 victory over the visitors two days later.
A solid defensive display secured the clean sheet with Sophie Black supplying the goal on 29 minutes which proved to be the difference.
Head Coach, Gary Doctor: “Camp was excellent with some great match experience against a strong Switzerland team. The players were outstanding in both games and achieving a draw and a win across the fixtures shows great progression from earlier in the year.
“We also gave three more debuts this week to Emily Cadell, Millie Paton and Sophie McKnight - Emily also grabbed a goal on her debut too which was fantastic.
“It was huge for the players to keep a clean sheet against well-ranked opposition. It was great preparation too for a few of the players who’ll be making that step-up to the under-17s in the near future.
“Overall, it was a great camp with lots of positives. They showed their quality against a tough opponent during games that were of a high intensity and played in quick succession. This is a fantastic group to work with and they have shown the level of potential we have for the future.”
Up next is a double-header against Republic of Ireland later this year.
