We’re one round from Hampden as the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup Quarter Finals are upon us!

It’s the last-8 of the competition and we’ve got a box-office weekend ahead as the six remaining Premiership and two Championship sides battle for a spot in the final four.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night at the Falkirk Stadium as the Bairns host Dundee United. Incredibly, this will be just the third time in history that the sides have drawn each other in the Scottish Cup, United won both previous ties, in 1965/66 and 1966/67. In the SPFL Premiership, United hold the upper hand in the fixture this season, having drawn 2-2 back in August and taking all 3 points when they met last month with a 1-0 win. The Navy Blue are aiming to reach their seventh Scottish Cup semi-final in the last 30 years. Only one of the previous six has come whilst they were a top flight club – that was back in 2008/09. They kick off at 7:45pm, live on BBC Scotland.

Saturday sees Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline Athletic host Premiership opposition at East End Park for the second time in this season’s competition as Aberdeen make the trip to face the Pars, live on Premier Sports at 7:30pm. Cup holders Aberdeen will be looking to continue their fine form in the competition, as they aim to reach the semi-finals for a third consecutive season, and for the seventh time in 10 seasons. The last time these sides met at East End Park in the Scottish Cup was in the 2008/09 Quarter Finals. While the match in Fife ended 1-1, the Pars came out on top on penalties at Pittodrie in the replay, with Graham Bayne firing home the winning penalty in a 4-2 shoot-out win.

The first of Sunday’s ties has a familiar feel as Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox for the second weekend in a row. While the sides shared the spoils in the league, only one can progress to the Semi Finals, live on Premier Sports at 1pm on Sunday. Celtic have a strong away record in the Scottish Cup that they’ll be looking to continue, having lost just one of their last 29 away matches, which was a 2-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in the fourth round of the 2020/21 competition. Remarkably, this is just the third time in the last 60 years that Rangers and Celtic have met at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup. Rangers won the last meeting 2-0 in 2020/21, and the sides also drew 2-2 in 2010/11. Prior to that, the last meeting was a 2-0 Rangers win in 1963/64, with Celtic’s last Scottish Cup win over Rangers at Ibrox all the way back in 1956/57.

The final tie of the weekend takes place in Paisley, as Partick Thistle make the short hop to Renfrewshire, aiming to reach the semi-final of the Scottish Cup for the first time since 2001/02. The Buddies have a strong record against lower league opposition in the Scottish Cup having lost just one of their last 22 Scottish Cup ties against opposition in a lower division than them – a 2-1 defeat at home to Dundee United in 2018/19.
