Women's Scottish Cup Semi-Final
Rangers v Motherwell
Saturday, 22 April, kick off 12:30pm
Hampden Park

Rangers and Motherwell will make history on Saturday when they run out at Hampden Park to compete in the first Women's Scottish Cup Semi-Final to take place at the National Stadium.

Rangers have already secured the Sky Sports Cup trophy this season and they will be looking to secure a cup double. Motherwell will be eyeing up a first Scottish Cup Final appearance since 2018.

The Women's Scottish Cup was revamped for this season, with the showpiece matches taking place at the National Stadium, while a brand-new trophy was revealed this week.

Cup Form

Rangers may have won the league title last season and the Sky Sports Cup this term, but they have not made a Scottish Cup Final since a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian thirteen year ago.

With 2009 the only other time they have made the final, Malky Thomson's side have a chance to make history in this year's competition.

And they have been in relentless form so far, with three goal-laden performances and three clean sheets so far.

Jodi McLeary grabbed a hat-trick in an 11-0 victory over Stirling University in Round Four, while Lizzie Arnot also scored three in a 13-0 victory over Rossvale in the Fifth Round.

Hibernian were expected to offer a tougher examination in the Quarter-Final but a rampant Rangers had too much - with six different players getting on the scoresheet in a 6-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Motherwell's players will be looking emulate the 2018 side who defeated Spartans 3-1 at Forthbank Stadium to reach that season's final.

They have also reached the last four without conceding a goal. After a 3-0 win over Gartcairn, Paul Brownlie's side produced an excellent performance to see off runaway SWPL2 leaders Montrose 4-0 in the Fifth Round.

Motherwell then secured victory of the same score line against Glasgow Women in the Quarter-Final, with Carla Boyce going home with the match ball.

Pre-match thoughts

Motherwell captain Gill Inglis will be playing at Hampden for the first time and she is relishing the prospect.

She said: "When I started playing football, I could never think that the semi-finals of the Women's Scottish Cup would be held at Hampden.

"Being here on Monday was definitely good preparation, it allowed us to look around and appreciate it a wee bit more but come Saturday, our game faces will definitely be on as we play the game and not the occasion."

Rangers' Tessel Middag, meanwhile, says they will use their Sky Sports Cup triumph earlier in the season to motivate them going into another big game on Saturday.

She said: "We have had the experience of winning the league cup earlier this season on a big occasion and at a big stadium. We need to remember that feeling and use it to motivate us.

"It will be a hard game - Motherwell are capable of beating teams. They are well-organised and play for each other. We need to be on our top game.

"Every time you win something, you can celebrate together and you play for those moments. To repeat what we did in the Sky Sports Cup would be great."
