Team News:

Scotland made one change from Saturday’s defeat to Finland, with Kayla Jardine replacing Eva Thomson.

As it Happened:

Scotland were left to rue their first half display as the visitors left Ainslie Park with all three points.

Switzerland took the lead in the third minute from a corner, as Svenja Von Felten found herself unmarked at the back post where she placed a volley into Lisa Maher-Rodgers’ top right corner.

Both sides were keen to play out from the back though neither could create any further clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes until the visitors doubled their lead, again from a corner as Smilla Vallotto rose highest to power a header into the bottom of the net.

Scotland very nearly took advantage of Switzerland’s tactics as London Pollard robbed their centre-back of the ball but her effort from outside the box went over the bar.

Scotland were then very unfortunate to have a penalty awarded against them.

As Mya Christie appeared to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick, the referee adjudged her to have used excessive force when shielding the ball and awarded Switzerland a penalty.

Caterina Tramezzani stepped up and calmly placed the ball beyond the outstretched arms of the Scotland goalkeeper as Switzerland went into the break three goals up.

The second-half was a much quieter affair, with Scotland battling excellently, putting bodies in front of the ball and not allowing the Swiss side to break their defence down.

Though the hosts did not threaten much in the second half, the young Scots will take pride in the way they defended, as two set-piece goals and a questionable penalty decision proved to be the difference between the two sides.
