The Scottish FA have received funding from the European Union Programme Erasmus+ for the next two years, until 2020 with the aim of continuing the association’s impressive coach education development.

The Scottish FA Erasmus+ project will engage with around 130 participants across three key areas during the latter part of 2018 and in 2019 to aid the development of coaches in Scotland during a number of different activities and events.

24 participants from the Scottish FA UEFA Pro Licence will visit the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Italy where they will engage in reality based training which favours learning in the game, using knowledge, skills and attitudes to deal with realistic situations.

50 Scottish FA/UEFA Youth Licence Coaches will conduct a Continued Professional Development (CPD) visit to Benfica where they will learn about the culture of the club, how it is structured as well as their coaching methods, philosophies and practices.

There will also be visits for coaches involved in the women’s game who will attend the 2018 FIFA Under-19s Women's World Cup and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup to further support their coaching knowledge and drive the women's game forward in Scotland.

Last summer, leaders in the female game benefited from the Scottish FA Erasmus+ initiative and journeyed to the Netherlands where they conducted observational analysis of EURO 2017, and learned from the Scotland coaching staff who led the team in their first major championships.

Neil Campion, Scottish FA Funding Manager said: “The Scottish FA have an ethos of continuous improvement in everything we do and this is achieved and reviewed with our coaches through their CPD planning, evaluation surveys, appraisals and gaps in coaching provision.

“Through this process, identifying key learnings from other European football organisations became very apparent as an important aspect for our coaches to engage with.

“In conjunction with Erasmus+, this programme allows the Scottish FA to provide further opportunities for employment within the UK and Europe for our coaches through shared learning, skill acquisition and qualifications.”
