The Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup visited Paisley on Thursday as the world's oldest club football trophy stopped off at the home of three-time cup winners St Mirren.

The Scottish Cup has already visited Spartans, Dundee North End and Fraserburgh over the course of the season for a series of 'Evening with the Scottish Cup' trophy tour events.

The events give supporters to have their picture taken with the Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup and the Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup trophies and enjoy a Q&A with former players.

St Mirren favourites Tony Fitzpatrick and Stephen McGinn joined host Craig Telfer on stage to reminisce about their time in Paisley.

Fitzpatrick was part of the St Mirren side who won the Scottish Cup for the third time against Dundee United in 1987. He would then go on to manage the Buddies on two occasions and have a stint at Chief Executive before stepping aside in 2022.

McGinn is also a firm favourite at the SMiSA Stadium, having enjoyed two spells as a St Mirren player, latterly captaining the Saints to promotion to the top flight in 2018. Having come through as a young player at St Mirren, McGinn is now back at the club's academy as Under-18 Head Coach.

St Mirren round off the Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup weekend on Monday evening as they entertain in-form Hearts.

Former St Mirren Chief Executive and manager Tony Fitzpatrick: "It was great to see us get a home tie. It brings back fond memories of when we won the Scottish Cup we played Hearts in the Semi-Final and we won 2-1.

"I think it will be a tremendous game and a great atmosphere. Hearts have turned the corner a bit but I still fancy us to get through.

Former St Mirren captain Stephen McGinn: "Stephen Robinson has done an amazing job at St Mirren, getting us back into the top six and into Europe but that trip to Hampden is one thing I'm sure he would love to get.

"The fans would love that day out and if you look at this St Mirren team, they tend to save a lot of the best performances for the bigger games and, funnily enough, I'm actually more confident with it being a match against one of the better teams, the players will be so up for it and I think they will perform well.

The last time we won a big trophy we beat Aberdeen, Celtic and then Hearts so I think you always have to win these games if you want to win these competitions.
