There were three changes to Gary Doctor’s 20-player squad that faced Slovakia in October.

Lily Boyce, Neve McDonald and Emma Thomson all stepped in with Rowena Armitage, Lucy Barclay, and Darra Dawson dropping out.

As It Happened

From kick off, Scotland took the game to their opponents, forcing Norway to scramble to cover their defence.

But Norway soon went on the offensive as Estella Turflinger got a shot away, missing the target. It would be this attempt that saw teammate Emilie Guddal try to take Norway ahead, although her shot went wide, not troubling Scotland’s Braelynn Galt in goal.

It was this confidence that allowed the visitors to build a bit of momentum early in the game which led to Luisa Galteland getting Norway’s first goal in the 13th minute.

Guddal fired a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar, giving a brief respite for Galt, until it fell into Galteland’s path. The defender confidently slotted the ball past Galt to provide Norway with the opener.

Despite going a goal down, Scotland continued to press in search of an equaliser, and in the 19th minute, Laura Berry earned a free kick a few yards outside the box after a foul by Ulstein as the action heated up.

Unfortunately for Scotland, Sophia Martin could not find her teammates despite a good set-piece effort.

Scotland kept the pressure up, and Sophie Black’s decisive strike forced Norway’s Kroken into the save.

Black’s effort was soon followed up by a corner, which Jess Husband sent into the box, causing a chaotic rush by both teams and almost getting that sought-after goal for Scotland, but it was not to be.

Abigail Tobin soon made an excellent block, giving Scotland a counter-attack opportunity.

Tobin sent the ball high and wide as Laura Berry gave chase, beating Kroken to the ball and turning it into the Norwegian box towards goal, although unable to reach a teammate to put the ball into the unguarded net.

As Norway pushed for a second goal, Guddal lined up a confident shot but was unable to beat a steadfast Galt.

Scotland ended the half a goal behind, but showing an eagerness to drive for an equaliser, with Berry going close.

As the second half began, Norway came out with an early attack, but Scotland’s hunger to score led to their own chance in the opening minutes.

With 50 minutes played, Scotland found their equaliser.

Sophia Martin’s corner found Sophie Townsley, whose shot at the Norway keeper was parried away and gave Berry the opening to score the goal that brought Scotland back into the game.

Scottish spirits lifted, Townsley had her own chance to add her name on the scoresheet, but her shot went wide as she faced down Kroken in a one-on-one.

A throw-in dropped neatly to Martin, who worked a shot through the Norwegian defence, forcing Kroken to make the save and deny Scotland from taking the lead.

As Norway sought to regain the lead, Berry broke from the Scottish defence to drive up the wing, meeting the Norwegian defence and holding up the ball long enough to bring on Scottish support to break through and score, but to no avail.

Scotland’s defence was tested through the final 30 minutes of the game but held firm with Galt making some exceptional saves to deny Norway from going back in front.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Scotland saw a second wind as substitutes Isobel Young and Olivia Chomczuk brought fresh options to take the ball forward and create chances that pushed for the winner.

Chomczuk played an exceptional pass through to Berry, who squared the ball and sent a shot screaming at the Norway keeper, who was just able to stop the ball from giving Scotland their own headline-stealing moment in the final minutes of the game.

Although conceding the first goal, Scotland came back into the game and held onto a one-all draw to secure a point in their first of three games against a tough Norway side.
