Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup Semi-Final
Glasgow City v Motherwell
Saturday, 26 April 2025, kick off 12:15pm
Hampden Park, Glasgow
The first Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup Semi-Final sees nine-time winners Glasgow City take on 2017/2018 runners-ups Motherwell.
The match will kick off at 12:15pm and is live on BBC One Scotland, with coverage from 12pm.
Previous Meetings
The first meeting behind the sides in the league this season was a close encounter, with City edging it 1-0 through an excellent Emily Whelan goal.
The two more recent matches have been more one-sided, however, with Glasgow City securing two home 4-0 victories at Petershill Park.
Cup Form
Glasgow City have won this competition on a record nine occasions, although the serial winners haven't lifted this trophy since beating Hibs six years ago.
They lost to Celtic in their last appearance at Hampden Park two years ago, and Leanne Ross' side will be looking to put that right as they return to the National Stadium.
They have had to do it the hard way this season, taking on three of last season's top six in their three matches so far.
After a hard-fought 3-1 win over Partick Thistle, City came from behind to beat Celtic 3-2 in the following round, with Brenna Lovera a double.
Glasgow City were then ten minutes from elimination against Hearts but Lisa Forrest grabbed the all important equaliser, just as it appeared the Jambos were going to hold on, and Kimberley Smit
bundled home from a corner to seal a Semi-Final place.
This is Motherwell's second Semi-Final appearance in the past three seasons as they aim to reach the Scottish Cup Final for only the second time, after losing to Hibs in the 2017/2018 season.
They may have faced a kinder draw than today’s opponents, Glasgow City, but the Well have put in three professional performances against the lower league opposition they have faced and they are the only remaining side yet to have conceded a goal so far.
Their campaign began back in December with a Third Round victory over SWPL2 side Rossvale, with a match that saw seven different scorers net for the Women of Steel.
Amy Sharkey then grabbed a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Bonnyrigg Rose and a 3-0 win over Boroughmuir Thistle followed in the Quarter-Finals as Motherwell confirmed their place in the last four.
Pre-Match Thoughts
Glasgow City's Lisa Evans: “It’s always been something that Glasgow City has prided itself on. Playing big games and playing for trophies. I’ve been fortunate to have had quite a lot of experience playing at Hampden, but for some of the girls it will be the first time.
“I’ve had some amazing days in my career but I’ve not actually won a trophy for a while. I think the last one I’ve won was with Arsenal in 2019 so it’s been a while for me personally. As a player, it always matters how much silverware you win when you look back at your career.
“The season has been really enjoyable. It’s already exceeded all my expectations. I’ve loved the competitiveness of training and the closeness of the league. It’s been so exciting to be a part of this title race. Working with the club and the staff, it’s been amazing to see the changes that have been made over the years and the progress.
“I’m actually struggling to remember my first Scottish Cup win back then but I do remember the second one at Toryglen when we beat Hibs in 2011.
“I remember scoring that day and it was great to win those trophies at a young age. It also shows the progress that the game has made up here, to think that the final could take place at Toryglen compared to Hampden now.”
Motherwell's Emily Mutch: “I’d never played at Hampden before but I remember manager Paul Brownlie took us up on the Monday before to look around which definitely helped.
“We managed to stay in the game for as long as we good and I performed well personally which was pleasing. It was a dream for all of us to play at the National Stadium and that was the first year the Women’s Scottish Cup Semi-Finals were played at Hampden so it was really nice to be a part of that.
“At the start of the season, our two main aims as a team were getting top six and doing well in the cup competitions, so in terms of the goals we set, we’ve done well but no we want to go and show that we can compete in the top six against these full-time teams.
“And it’s the same in the cups. We want to show that we’re not just there to make up the numbers – we want to get to the final.”
