Women's Scottish Cup Final
Celtic v Rangers
Sunday, 28 May, kick off 1:30pm
Hampden Park

Celtic and Rangers will face off for the last time this season as they bid to get their hands on the final piece of silverware on offer.

Celtic are looking to retain the trophy whilst Rangers are on the hunt for the domestic cup double. It’s a weekend of firsts as the two sides have never met in the final of this competition, culminating in the showpiece event, which will be hosted at the national stadium for the first time.

Road to the final:

Celtic dispatched of Glasgow City in the semi-final in a closely contested 1-0 win at Hampden Park. Natasha Flint’s strike on 20 minutes was enough to secure a spot in the final for Fran Alonso’s side who are looking to retain the trophy for the second year in a row.

Earlier in the competition, Celtic enjoyed a 9-0 win over Falkirk, a fifth round 5-0 victory over Boroughmuir Thistle and a 5-1 win over Hearts in the quarter finals. They’ve also enjoyed record breaking league crowds in recent weeks as the domestic competition reached a nail biting crescendo – Glasgow City running out eventual winners with a late goal against Celtic’s cup final opponents.

Rangers, who are hoping to relocate the trophy to Ibrox, are yet to concede a goal in the competition. Goals from Hannah Davison and Chelsea Cornet against Motherwell in the semi-final at Hampden Park secured a spot in Sunday’s finale. Davison’s goal on 17 minutes marked a historic moment as the first goal scored in this competition at the national stadium.

Malky Thomson’s side already secured the Sky Sports Cup earlier this season as they look to double up on their trophy haul for 2022/23.

The Ibrox side have scored 32 goals on their road to the final. An 11-0 rout over Stirling Uni set them on their way in the fourth round – this was followed by a 13-0 win over Rossvale in the fifth and a 6-0 victory over Hibs in the quarter finals.

Pre-match thoughts:

Celtic head coach, Fran Alonso: “We are playing for a trophy in front of our amazing fans at Hampden Park and we’re looking forward to it.

“We need to use the disappointment and hurt from the league and transfer it into aggression, quality and passion.

“We want to put in a performance that our fans are proud of and hopefully we can bring another trophy to Paradise.”

Rangers’ captain, Kath Hill: “It’s a historic moment for both teams being the first in the final at Hampden.

“It would be great to be the first women’s captain to lift the trophy at the national stadium.

“It’s going to be a really tough game and we’ve a tough 90 minutes to get through but hopefully our fans are there behind us.”
