The Scottish Cup returned tonight with a bang as Brora Rangers pulled off the result of the round with a 2-1 victory over Heart of Midlothian in what is one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition.
The Scottish Cup finalists in December fell behind after 12 minutes before Christophe Berra levelled the scores with half an hour to go. Martin MacLean then hit back for Brora five minutes later to give them the lead once again. The Highland League side, who have only played one competitive game this year, held on to book a home tie against League 2 side Stranraer in the next round.
Elsewhere Inverness made hard work of their away tie to Buckie Thistle. The score was level at 2-2 with six minutes to go but on the 86th minute Daniel Mackay secured the win for the visitors. They set themselves up with a Highland derby in the next round where Premiership strugglers Ross County await.
Falkirk defeated Championship side Arbroath and earn a trip away to Celtic Park in the Third Round of the competition and Montrose swept Nairn County aside with ease, winning 7-1.
Ayr United and Clyde both won their ties relatively comfortably and will face each other at the start of April.
Dumbarton will be one of Stephen Glass’s first opponents for Aberdeen as they set up a tie with the Dons following a 4-0 rout of Huntly.
Partick Thistle were back in action at the weekend and tonight they defeated Cowdenbeath 3-0, facing a trip to Premiership opposition in the shape of Dundee United.
Raith Rovers defeated Stirling Albion and Stenhousemuir made the long trip to Peterhead, winning 1-0. They'll take on Kilmarnock next up.
Formartine United and Greenock Morton were forced to fight their way into the next round through a penality shoot out. Formartine upset the odds against Annan Athletic, setting up a glamorous home tie against Motherwell.
The Third Round of the competition will be played next weekend, across the 3/4 April.
