Given the run of form Wick Academy star Sam Mackay finds himself on at the moment he might want to start shooting from the halfway line.
The midfielder has scored Goal of the Round in the last TWO William Hill Scottish Cup stages to help his club into the Third Round of the competition, where they will face Linlithgow Rose this Saturday.
Mackay received over 50% of the public vote for his first-round thunderbolt against Whitehill Welfare and recently clinched his second prize for a wonderful chip in the replay win over Nairn.
Speaking to the Scottish FA, the player said: “I was absolutely delighted to win the award first time round but to get it a second time is just a fantastic feeling. I was up against some really good goals and that makes it all the sweeter.”

SAM MACKAY GOAL v Whitehill Welfare - William Hill Scottish Cup First Round
“One of the lads won a header in the middle and i got it planted at my feet. I knew I had a midfielder on me and that it was gonna be hard to get space. When I managed to get space in front me I thought, why not have a pop and see what happens? When it came off my shoe it ended up curling AWAY from the goalkeeper and hit the side netting. Whitehall were a big physical team It was scrappy game, but in the end we were good enough to go through.”
SAM MACKAY v Nairn County - William Hill Scottish Cup Second Round
“The right-back gave it away so I knew he was out of position. I ran down towards the corner and seen the keeper was off his line a bit. I thought we’re 4-1 up what is there to lose? It took an eternity to drop into the net but it landed right in the top corner."
